Sustainability Café Wetzlar Heat summer also in Wetzlar: Promoting heat protection and health – for me and others Hot summer days are noticeably increasing in Wetzlar as well. "Heat days" and "tropical nights" are occurring more frequently – with sometimes significant consequences for health. Particularly affected are older people, children, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing conditions or outdoor occupations. In the Sustainability Café, we address the question of how we can cope with increasing heat and how each person can protect themselves effectively. To start, Jan Niesten (Climate Adaptation Management, City of Wetzlar) provides insights into the local impacts of climate change and presents existing and planned measures for heat protection. Following that, Dr. Rainer Becker (pulmonologist ret.) discusses the health effects of heat and explains the connections within the framework of the "Planetary Health" concept. Afterwards, we invite you to an open question and discussion round. No registration & free entry Sustainability Café – briefly explained Sustainability means not only environmental protection but also social responsibility and good coexistence. The Sustainability Café offers an open meeting place where people come together, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and develop joint projects for a more sustainable and solidarity-based society. For over two years, the Sustainability Café has been taking place once a month in the Wetzlar City Library – always on the last Thursday at 7 p.m. Usually, there are short impulse lectures on topics such as sustainable mobility, biodiversity, climate adaptation, renewable energies, or nutrition. Afterwards, there is time for conversations, exchange, and networking. Ideas can emerge, and joint actions can be planned. A cozy atmosphere with snacks and drinks is provided. The topics are oriented towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
