Die Gartenanlage rund um Kloster Eberbach, eine ehemalige Zisterzienserabtei in der Nähe von Eltville am Rhein, ist 7.5 ha groß. Das für seinen Weinbau berühmte Kloster war eine der ältesten und bedeutendsten Zisterzen in Deutschland. Die im Naturpark Rhein-Taunus gelegene Anlage zählt mit ihren romanischen und frühgotischen Bauten zu den bedeutendsten Kunstdenkmälern Europas. Die Gestaltung der Gartenanlagen fand zu Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts statt. Das dabei realisierte Konzept nahm vielfach weltliche Einflüsse auf und ließ zeitgenössische Formalgärten entstehen, wie sie in Deutschland schon bis zu 50 Jahre zuvor in Schlossgärten und Parks umgesetzt wurden. Nicht nur das Kloster selbst, sondern auch die angrenzende Gastronomie und Vinothek laden zu einem Besuch ein.
The gardens around Eberbach Monastery, a former Cistercian abbey near Eltville am Rhein, cover 7.5 hectares. The monastery, famous for its viticulture, was one of the oldest and most important Cistercian abbeys in Germany. Located in the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park, the complex with its Romanesque and early Gothic buildings is one of the most important artistic monuments in Europe. The gardens were designed at the beginning of the 18th century. The concept that was realized in the process often incorporated secular influences and gave rise to contemporary formal gardens, such as had already been implemented in palace gardens and parks in Germany up to 50 years earlier.
