In der Römerstadt begegnet Dir das „Neue Frankfurt“ der 1920er Jahre: klare Formen, durchdachte Grundrisse, viel Licht, Grün und eine Siedlungsplanung, die Lebensqualität in den Mittelpunkt stellte. Die von Ernst May geprägte Moderne wird hier nicht als trockenes Architekturthema erzählt, sondern als Stadtgeschichte zum Anfassen: Wie wohnten Menschen damals? Warum waren Gärten, Wege und Nachbarschaften so wichtig? Und weshalb wirkt vieles bis heute erstaunlich aktuell?
Im zweiten Teil richtet sich der Blick auf den Riedberg und damit auf neueren Wohnungsbau, energieeffiziente Architektur und die Frage, wie Stadt am Stadtrand entsteht. This tour takes you from the historic Römerstadt housing project to the newer Riedberg district. In Römerstadt, you’ll encounter the “New Frankfurt” of the 1920s: clean lines, well-thought-out floor plans, plenty of light and greenery, and urban planning that prioritized quality of life. The modernism shaped by Ernst May is not presented here as a dry architectural topic, but as tangible urban history: How did people live back then? Why were gardens, paths, and neighborhoods so important? And why does so much of it still seem surprisingly relevant today?
In the second part, the focus shifts to Riedberg and, with it, to more recent residential construction, energy-efficient architecture, and the question of how a city takes shape on the outskirts.
