Cycling at speed, on four-metre-wide, level paths, without cars, obstacles and tight bends: the 30-kilometre-long high-speed cycle path between Frankfurt and Darmstadt should make all of this possible for commuters in the densely populated Rhine-Main region. The ground-breaking ceremony for the pioneering project took place in Egelsbach in 2018, and since then the cycle highway has had many fans on the first section between Darmstadt-Wixhausen and Egelsbach.
The entire route is asphalted and, thanks to a smart lighting concept, cyclists always have good visibility. There are lights every 30 to 40 meters that react to movement with a sensor and switch off again when there is no traffic. If you break down along the way, there are repair stations along the route with a pump and tools, and even the garbage cans at the side of the path are angled so that you can easily reach them from the saddle.

Die gesamte Strecke ist asphaltiert und dank eines smarten Lichtkonzepts haben Radfahrer*innen hier immer gute Sicht. Alle 30 bis 40 Meter stehen Leuchten, die mit einem Sensor auf Bewegung reagieren und sich wieder ausschalten, wenn kein Verkehr herrscht. Wer unterwegs eine Panne hat, findet entlang der Route Reparatur-Stationen mit Pumpe und Werkzeug und sogar die Mülleimer am Wegesrand sind so geneigt, dass man sie vom Sattel aus gut treffen kann.
