Georg Büchner had a short, full and turbulent life. He was a writer, scientist and revolutionary, but he did not live to see the publication and success of his great dramas such as "Woyzeck" or "Leonce and Lena": he died of typhoid fever in exile in Zurich in 1837 at the age of 23. Two special places in Büchner's birthplace of Riedstadt commemorate him: his birthplace at Weidstraße 9 in the Goddelau district and the BüchnerBühne in Riedstadt-Leeheim. The BüchnerHaus documents his life and work with a clever exhibition concept. On the first floor, for example, a table with eight chairs symbolizes Büchner's closest relatives and confidants, who are each presented in their own folders. Büchner was persecuted in 1835 for his commitment to social justice and democracy during the Vormärz period and fled abroad. The BüchnerHaus shows his writings from the "Hessischer Landbote" illuminated in an otherwise dark room. Time and again, the exhibition in the half-timbered house from 1665 plays with dramatic elements and thus creates a link to the BüchnerBühne, which also performs plays by Molière and Dario Fo alongside its namesake. Both institutions are supported by an association with an eloquent name: BüchnerFindetStatt.

Er war Schriftsteller, Naturwissenschaftler und Revolutionär, die Veröffentlichung und den Erfolg seiner großen Dramen wie „Woyzeck“ oder „Leonce und Lena“ erlebte er nicht mehr: Schon im Alter von 23 Jahren starb er 1837 an Typhus im Züricher Exil. In Büchners Geburtsort Riedstadt erinnern gleich zwei besondere Orte an ihn: sein Geburtshaus in der Weidstraße 9 im Stadtteil Goddelau und die BüchnerBühne in Riedstadt-Leeheim. Mit einem klugen Ausstellungskonzept dokumentiert das BüchnerHaus sein Leben und Werk. Im Erdgeschoss steht etwa ein Tisch mit acht Stühlen sinnbildlich für Büchners nächste Verwandten und Vertrauten, die jeweils in eigenen Mappen vorgestellt werden. Wegen seines Engagements für soziale Gerechtigkeit und Demokratie in den Zeiten des Vormärz wurde Büchner 1835 verfolgt und floh ins Ausland. Das BüchnerHaus zeigt seine Schriften aus dem „Hessischen Landboten“ angestrahlt in einem ansonsten dunklen Raum. Immer wieder spielt die Ausstellung in dem Fachwerkhaus von 1665 mit dramatischen Elementen und schafft so die Verbindung zur BüchnerBühne, die neben dem Namensgeber auch Stücke von Molière oder Dario Fo spielt. Träger beider Institutionen ist ein Verein mit sprechendem Namen: BüchnerFindetStatt.
