125 Meter spannt sich diese Eisenbahnbrücke über den Main – und eröffnet Fußgänger*innen ein Traumpanorama auf die Skyline.
Von der Deutschherrnbrücke aus gesehen präsentiert sich die Frankfurter Skyline wie eine Theaterkulisse. Die stählerne Eisenbahnbrücke spannt sich seit über 100 Jahren zwischen Sachsenhausen und dem Ostend über den Main. Fußgänger passieren sie auf einem Steg neben den Gleisen – und genießen eines der schönsten Mainhattan-Panoramen der Stadt. Rund um den Commerzbank Tower, mit 259 Metern das höchste Gebäude im Land, gruppieren sich der Main Tower und ein gutes Dutzend weitere Skyscraper.
Es lohnt sich aber, auf der Brücke nicht nur die Augen, sondern auch die Ohren offen zu halten: „Sonic Vista” heißt das akustische Kunstwerk von Bruce Odland und Sam Auinger, das hier mittels eines roten und eines blauen Kugellautsprechers den Sound der Stadt in Klangkunst verwandelt. Klingt gewaltig und eindrucksvoll – und ist damit eine gute Einstimmung auf einen anderen spektakulären Frankfurter Riesen: Der Bau der Europäischen Zentralbank liegt direkt am Hafenpark, nur ein paar Minuten von der Brücke entfernt.

This railway bridge spans 125 metres over the Main – and offers pedestrians a dream panorama of the skyline.
From the Deutschherrnbrücke, the Frankfurt skyline looks like a theatre backdrop. The steel railway bridge has spanned the River Main between Sachsenhausen and Ostend for over 100 years. Pedestrians cross it on a footbridge next to the railway tracks - and enjoy one of the most beautiful Mainhattan panoramas in the city. The Main Tower and a dozen or so other skyscrapers are grouped around the Commerzbank Tower, the tallest building in the country at 259 metres.
However, it is worth keeping your eyes as well as your ears open on the bridge: "Sonic Vista" is the name of the acoustic artwork by Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger, which transforms the sound of the city into sound art using a red and a blue spherical loudspeaker. It sounds powerful and impressive - and is therefore a good introduction to another spectacular Frankfurt giant: The European Central Bank building is located right next to the harbour park, just a few minutes away from the bridge.
