About: The English Theatre Frankfurt

Ob im Musical oder Psychodrama: Nur „native speaker” spielen im größten englischsprachigen Theater auf dem Kontinent. Seit mehr als 40 Jahren kommen hier zeitgenössische Dramen, Komödien, Klassiker und Musicals auf die Bühne. Das Publikum ist bunt und treu: Unter den mehr als 70.000 Zuschauer*innen, die jedes Jahr die Vorstellungen besuchen sind Expats aus der Finanzbranche genauso wie Schüler*innen und Liebhaber*innen der englischen Sprache. Hier entsteht kein deutsches Regietheater auf Englisch, sondern von Grund auf angloamerikanisches Theater. Castings und Proben finden in London oder im kalifornischen Santa Barbara statt, die Rollen gehen ausschließlich an Muttersprachler*innen. Zwei Wochen vor der Premiere kommen Ensemble und Regie dann für die letzten intensiven Proben nach Frankfurt. Wer nach der Vorstellung noch einen Drink an der Bar bestellt, kommt also schnell mit Schauspieler*innen aus aller Welt ins Gespräch.

Whether in musicals or psychodrama: only native speakers perform in the largest English-language theatre on the continent. There is no larger English-language theatre on the entire European continent than this one. For more than 40 years, contemporary dramas, comedies, classics and musicals have been staged here. The audience is colourful and loyal: among the more than 70,000 spectators who attend the performances every year are expats from the financial sector as well as schoolchildren and lovers of the English language. This is not German director's theatre in English, but theatre that is Anglo-American from scratch. Castings and rehearsals take place in London or Santa Barbara, California, and the roles go exclusively to native speakers. Two weeks before the premiere, the ensemble and director come to Frankfurt for the final intensive rehearsals. So if you order a drink at the bar after the performance, you can quickly strike up a conversation with actors from all over the world.
